Quality

Meeting the highest standards

ESA works with Safety Guard, the VanDrie Group's quality system. With Safety Guard, we guarantee food safety, animal welfare and traceability throughout our production chain.

This quality system is based on ISO 22000. Various other standards are also guaranteed. With Safety Guard, the VanDrie Group fully complies with the Dutch veal sector's quality system: Vitaal Kalf (Vital Veal). The Foundation for Quality Guarantee of the Veal Sector (Stichting Kwaliteitsgarantie Vleeskalversector, SKV) carries out sampling and visual checks at ESA to ensure veal is produced to the highest standards.

ESA also has its own quality department. It ensures that the highest standards are constantly met. For sampling and analyses, we work with certified laboratories.

Traceability throughout the chain
A unique aspect of Safety Guard is its traceability system. We keep precise records of which raw materials are processed into animal feed, where they come from and which farms receive the batches of animal feed. The calves have unique ear numbers that are always linked to the animal. This enables us to know at which farm the animal was kept or even born. Within ESA, this unique code remains linked to the meat. In this way, we are able to trace an individual piece of meat back to, for example, an individual ingredient in the animal feed.
